Haystax — Logo Design
Project Summary
Haystax is a software builders brand. The goal was to create a logo that communicates building, experimentation, and craft while staying simple and recognizable across digital and print.
What the Logo Needed to Solve
- Feel builder-led and hands-on, not corporate
- Stand out in a crowded software space
- Work at small sizes for social, favicon, and product UI
- Stay flexible for decks, proposals, and documentation
Final Logo Components
- A hand-drawn haystack-like scribble icon
- A clean uppercase wordmark: HAYSTAX
- A minimal black and white presentation for maximum flexibility
Design Logic
1. The Scribble Stack as a Metaphor for Building
The icon is intentionally made of many strokes.
- It suggests layers of work, iterations, and components coming together
- The stacked lines read like a bundle of ideas or modules
- The central stem gives the mark a foundation, supporting the idea of structure
2. Maker Mindset and Personality
A hand-drawn texture signals a maker culture.
- Feels human and craft-driven
- Suggests experimentation and prototyping
- Adds distinctiveness without relying on a literal tech symbol
3. Clean Wordmark for Clarity
The wordmark stays simple so the icon can carry the personality.
- Uppercase improves legibility
- Wide spacing reads confident and stable
- Minimal styling keeps the identity versatile across use cases
Practical Checks
- Small size tests to ensure the icon does not collapse into noise
- Simplified icon option by reducing line density for micro sizes
- One-color test for print and documentation
Outcome
The final Haystax logo balances craft and clarity. The scribble stack icon communicates building and iteration, while the clean wordmark keeps the brand professional and usable across everyday software and business touchpoints.
Deliverables
- Primary logo (icon + wordmark)
- Icon only version
- Simplified micro size icon (reduced line density)
- One-color version
Final Design
The completed Haystax identity is a distinctive, craft-led mark built for the software space. The hand-drawn scribble stack and clean uppercase wordmark come together into a system that feels human and builder-led — ready to represent the brand across product UI, decks, documentation, and every digital touchpoint.
